The switch to Bloglines
Posted by Joe under At home and work , Random Thoughts , Software, Hardware and stuffAfter about a year of using RSS bandit as my feed reader I’ve switched to Bloglines. If I only accessed feeds from one place I would stick with RSS Bandit, but I could not sync my feeds between home and work as read/unread etc. That was the only thing that made me switch. I prefer a nice rich interface with lots of features, but the pain got too much.
I tried Bloglines over a year ago. I didn’t like it. Can’t remeber why not. I don’t know what’s changed but it is now my reader of choice.
What do you use? Why? What’s wrong with it?
I’ve been using Bloglines for a good 6-months plus, and love it. The web interface is nice and fast - no long waits for retrieval of feeds. I can use it to publish a blogroll on my site. I can read feeds from my mobile phone by using the /mobile option. It integrates nicely with Firefox (via plugins).
All good.
I just had a play with /mobile. That’s quite cool. How do you have it set up with firefox? Is it different to just browsing their website?
There’s just a couple of Firefox plugins. One adds a little notifier of new bloglines items to your firefox status bar, the other adds a context menu for links, so you can right-click and hit ’subscribe’ to add it to bloglines.
If you hit ‘Next Tip’ on the initial ‘My Blogs’ page a few times, eventually you’ll get to the ‘Bloglines Firefox Center’ page.
