Went for a skate at Maclean park last night. Got given a lesson in how to ride a longboard at a skatepark. A guy was there jumping over the spine, among other things, on a longboard.
It wasn’t a standard setup. He had shortboard trucks and wheels, with no risers. Now I want to get a shortboard too so I can learn more tricks…
Looks like an ok park. Where is that in Wellington exactly?
I got back into skating because there’s a fantastic old skate park in Mountain View CA that’s an 80′s style ‘swimming pool’ with roll in edges and three deep bowls joined by various hips.
I used to work 5 minutes drive from it and tear out there most mornings and lunchtimes for a skate.
Being an old fella lacking any tricks the modern parks with all their coping, stairs and rails kinda leave me a bit cold. I do like a nice concrete sweep or a half pipe though…
Updated post with link to map. It’s at Paraparaumu Beach, about 55km north of Wellington. It used to have a big vert ramp which I used to ride in my late teens. I could get to the top pumping (about 12-13′) but never had the guts to drop in on it.
Heh, dropping in is funny eh? It’s entirely mental I swear but yeah terrifies me too…even on a moderate concrete half-pipe…
Ah I’m such a wuss.
I’m sure it’s 99% mental, especially when I see 8 year olds do it after only a few hours on a board.
