Nike is right: Just do it!
Whenever I go out on my longboard I get watched by guys (and girls) of all ages. It’s not often they see someone my age on a board having fun. That’s when the ones that know have ‘the look’.
You can see it in their eyes - first the vacant look as they cast their mind back, then the grin as remember the fun they had, then the smile with envy and admiration as they see somone of my age still prepared to act like a kid for no good reason other than they want to.
To all you guys (and girls) that give me ‘the look’: Just do it! Get yourself a board and start having fun!

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. NZ culture is a little odd in this respect. I think we have inherited a little too much of the British reserve.
Living in California for 18 months and going to Cali skate parks was an eye opener. At a crowded park you’d find skaters that pretty much crossed the entire board. From kids and teenagers all the way up to retired grandfathers and most people were pretty mellow and friendly. Man I miss it.
The other thing you see a lot more of in California was padding and helmets - I don’t know if it was because of the healthcare/insurance issues in the US or just because people have been skating since the 70’s over there. NZers seem to have a pretty cavalier attitude to dashing their brains out on concrete surfaces.
