Cool websites
Wed 8 Feb 2006
Being a Kiwi, I had my language set to UK English on Gmail. One thing I found was that switching to US English made the chat archive and clips availble. Changing back to UK reverts back. Another thing I found is that in the US English setting, on the right side bar, just above the ads, is a link to the google map of the sender’s address. The Americans out there may not find this novel, but it’s interesting to see.
UPDATE: Chat in Gmail has now been turned on. Switching back to UK English turns it off.

Improving quality of Google maps
Posted by Joe under Cool websites , Web development and designNo Comments
Google has been inproving the depth of its non-US and non-UK maps. You an now see down to about 10km across for New Zealand and other parts of the world. Its’ far from a cartographers dream, but you can see major roads near my house, the airport etc. Zooming out a bit you can see Kapiti Island off the coast. heading north up the coast you can follow the Whanganui river inland to Mount Ruapehu. Going further north you come to one of my favourite spots; Mount Maunganui, one of the best surf beaches around.

I’m sure if you want one you have it already. If not drop me a line and I’ll hook you up

A while back I wrote about my #1 Google phrases. Guess what? I’m #1 for the phrase “#1 Google phrases” (I don’t know why I bothered to look). Also, I’ve made page 1 for “coolest websites” (7) and “coolest looking websites” (4).
While it’s not “cool websites” it still brings in a bit of traffic (part of the long tail)
“bmx for everybody” still pulls up this page (and this one at #2). I’m still #1 for Joseph Lindsay, #2 for Joe Lindsay and #2 for specialist generalist and #1 for just like everybody else.
So as Richard asked earlier, what are you number one for?

Just when I am about to rant about how 1024×768 is the new 800×600 Cameron Adams comes out with a fantastic resolution dependent layout. Very cool
